Demonic Portals

We were in pursuit of the shard of Karavakos. It had left as a magical sphere in a the general direction were we had now found a spiraling staircase. Kolodin level 8 Halfling Rogue lead the way. He wasn’t the most perceptive in the party, but rather agile and had very fast reflexes. As he slowly moved up the stairs, a hiden trap in lunged him toward the deep center of the staircase. As Kolodin rose again Dizzy level 8 Human Ranger had noticed where the trap was located. Kolodin began disarming the trap, his cousin Neiva level 8 Halfling Bard looked as if she was hoping he would not succeed, so she could show her skills instead. Finally Kolodin was satisified. We continued up the stairs…

At the next level was a corridor with several large face ornaments on the wall. We decided to investigate the room behind a small door before a set of larger doors by the faces. As we turned into a small corridor Vyrellis alerted us that something south of here needed our attention. Aeylin level 8 Eladrin Warlock agreed with the advice, not for the first time, certainly not the last either. Her bond to Vyrellis was clearly getting dangerous. We decided for her that we still needed to examine the small passage first.

Feed me, I am hungry!

Suddenly a face spoke. Kray level 8 Human Wizard realized he had forgot to blast the stone ornaments as we stepped into the room. After a while all faces looked completely dead, hanging there with large mouths. In fact very large mouths. Nevia looked at Kolodin.

It’s nothing we havn’t done before anyway…

Neiva tied a rope around Kolodin and herself. She then sat down on the floor with both feet up the wall. Kolodin climbed in. On the inside was a small room. It felt magic and as he searched the room for hidden treasures he realized that he could probably step out from any of the other faces if he thought of one. He went for it. As he appeared behind the rest of the party he felt a small hit as if something ate of him.

It’s possible to get from one of these to another. But I’m not doing it again.

Kray wasn’t convinced .

What if one of them leads to something hidden!

Kray tried a few portals at random, all with the same result. No one else was very eager to try the portals, so we decided  to open the door instead.

Behind the door was several hideous creatures that Dizzy told us were foulspawn. From nowhere two of them appeared and flanked Kolodin, a third appeared and dazed Neiva.

Aeylin cast a dark rain over two of the foulspawn who were critically hit. When a foulspawn was about to hit Neiva, she fired a guiding arrow at it (with her new crossbow). This gave Dizzy an opportunity to fire two arrows as well. At the beginning of the combat Kray had activated his fireshield now he was shining bright. A large berserker foulspawn hit him with a massive strike, but fell down dead by the injuries from Kray‘s flames.

When there was finally only one of the foulspawn left. Neiva slid Kray into melee position. This allowed for Kolodin to sneak up around and behind the foulspawn with a deft strike from the flank. It was Aeylin who finished the foulspawn off. Aeylin had seemed very efficient during the entire combat. Had she been given some dark secret by Vyrellis perhaps? Could she be trusted?
